Snow and Gutenberg

Life has kept me from blogging for some days. Our "snowman" didn't come — but the snow did and so did the plow that left a snow bank down where our driveway starts. Since I had to bring my darling to the vet for his yearly shot and check-up and since our car refuse to participate in an obstacle race I had to do the shoveling. The snow was wet and very heavy — perfect for building a snow fort. Definitely not how I like to start my days.

And going to the vet is nothing my darling likes anytime any day — not even when he gets admired as he did.
So we have both spent a couple of days by the fire, doing very little.

Girl Holding Lemons, painting by William Bouguereau (1825-1905)

Yesterday I spent a while in the kitchen making lemon butter, as I had to use the lemons before they would dry up. I used raw sugar this time and am very pleased with the result. It tastes good — and has a lovely honey color.

Today, being Saturday, I've been checking out Gutenberg's new books.
"A Little Maid of Massachusetts Colony" (1915) by Alice Turner Curtis makes me think of "The Calico bush" by Rachel Field
.

Another lovely and very short book is "The Mouse and the Christmas Cake", author unknown. I'm looking forward to look at the other finds when I have slept and understand what I read.
