    Yes, she looks so sad - is it because the book is sad, or has it something to do with their relation?

    Perhaps he is reading out a list of her faults, or the housekeeping bills? Or maybe he never pays her any attention because his nose is always in a book! I love pictures with endless possibilities.

    Maureen,
    I think she is bored - he wants to educate her, and she doesn't want to be educated. She wants to escape the world by reading about love and money - and he is reading Spinoza to her.
