Morning in November
Sir George Clausen
For some reason I find November in a painting so much more appealing than November in real life.

It has been misty all day and I can see the beauty in it even if I don't appreciate it.

  1. It's a very between sort of Month isn't it.....Not yet Christmas, Not quite Winter...although I don't think I'd go quite as far as Thomas Hood...

"No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds -

  2. I don't think Sir Walter Scott was too impressed either

"November's sky is chill and drear,
November's leaf is red and sear."
    - Sir Walter Scott

    "drear" a very evocative word

  3. I love both the painting and the reality. November is one of my favorite months. In fact, my very first blog entry extolled its virtues. I know, I know - I am strange. :<)

  4. Val,
I always think of Thomas Hood's lines when we get close to November, and this year I think I agree!
    Yes, drear is the word!

As I just wrote in a new post, I don't dislike November, but after a summer and fall with almost no sun, it is hard do take more of the wet and gray weather. With the days getting shorter we need the electric light on all day. But it is beautiful!
