Afternoon tea

It was not, after all, opportunity but imagination that
he lacked: he had a mental palate which would never
learn to distinguish between railway tea and nectar.

SNIPPODOODLES
One cup of sugar, one tablespoon of butter, one-half cup of milk, one egg, one cup of flour, one teaspoon of cinnamon. Cream the butter, add the sugar, then the eggs well beaten, then the flour, baking powder and cinnamon, sifted together, and the milk. Spread very thin on the tin sheet and bake. When nearly done sprinkle with sugar; when brown remove from the oven, cut into squares and remove quickly with a knife. They should be thin and crispy.

  1. Wow! They didn't use much butter in those days, did they?! I Tablespoon! More like 1/2 cup, please. :<)

  2. I am planning to try out Nan's Snickerdoodles tomorrow - I think the recipe sounds a little richer than these Snippodoodles. But perhaps they would be better for me?

  3. Nan and Maureen,
I'm not a cookie person but I've found that it often is possible to use much less sugar and butter than most recipes asks for. I think it depends on what you're used to.
I'll let you know if I try these - but it won't be soon!
